How to Choose a Dance Studio

Selecting the right dance studio is a lot like finding the perfect outfit. You might have to try a few different things, you might love what you see, or you might need to make some changes. You might even think you have a winner, only to change your mind after a few weeks. Here’s the good news: that’s okay! Finding the right dance studio doesn’t have to be hard, and we have a few simple steps to help you navigate the journey.

1. Define Your Goals

Before starting your search, take a moment to think about your goals. Are you hoping to dance professionally, or do you want to take dance classes for fun and fitness? Either way, Reign Dance Project has room for you! We offer laid back class options as well as rigorous training programs and one-on-one sessions, giving you the perfect experience no matter what. No matter your dance dreams, we offer a supportive environment that will help you reach your goals.

2. Research Dance Styles

Lots of little ones have dreams of being a spinning ballerina in a puffy tutu, but sometimes the direction isn’t so clear. Take some time to research different dance styles and class offerings to see what might be a good match. Fortunately, Reign Dance Project boasts a comprehensive and diverse schedule, from sassy musical theatre options to classical ballet. If you’re unsure, come check out some trial classes for a better feel.

3. Consider Class Sizes

Class size can significantly impact the learning experience. Smaller classes offer more personalized attention and feedback, which can be essential for improving technique, but also for having fun. Our class numbers are designed to support individual and group learning in a cohesive way. We also utilize assistants to ensure everyone has the proper resources and attention they need.

4. Observe Studio Culture

The studio’s culture and atmosphere should align with your values and expectations. A positive, supportive, and inclusive environment is where students learn best, and we are proud to offer just that. We want to help our students thrive and that simply cannot happen without robust positivity and support. Our studio structure also allows parents and caregivers to hear what’s going on in class so everyone can understand the process and culture.

5. Evaluate Performance Opportunities

At Reign Dance Project, we have a multitude of opportunities for performance no matter what learning track your student is taking, including:

Recitals

Competitions

Community events.

Each student can participate in our yearly recitals that are open for parents, friends, and other family members to attend. These are lighthearted events that are made to be fun! For our more serious students, our competition team will attend intensives, conventions, and of course, competitions. We will also participate in fun community events like Christmas parades and fall festivals.

There are tons of different studios and dance classes in Richmond, but we certainly hope you’ll come to see what Reign Dance Project is all about. With our passion for inclusivity and creativity, we have room for all in our studio!
